“The greatest work of music of all ages and of all peoples” has been performed by the Ama Deus Ensemble for ten consecutive years, traditionally on Good Friday, and also recorded on the Vox Classics label. Written over a span of 20 years, this is a true musical testament of Bach. This year the performance falls on his birthday and is one of the central events of the Philadelphia’s International Bach Festival Week.

The Ama Deus Ensemble chorus and orchestra premiere The Ninth, Beethoven’s last complete symphony and the first symphonic work ever to use the human voice along with instruments. It is deeply ironic that Beethoven could never hear a note of his own greatest masterpiece nor the roaring ovation following its premiere in Vienna in 1824, since he composed and conducted it being completely deaf.

This performance is being recorded live to be released on the Lyrichord label.

2007-2008 Concert Season XXI comes to its festive grand finale at the beautiful Thomas Great Hall. Witness two spectacular premieres.
